:- 3.0 out of 5 stars from SoCal Reviewer -- Another US Expat? Another Old Bookstore? : The synopsis for Chapter and Curse, first in a new series, both intrigued me and had me scratching my head. Does the cozy mystery genre really need yet another US expatriate suddenly relocating to the UK to run/own/manage a charming old bookstore? Not particularly, I thought, but I set aside my reservations and took a chance on this. Overall Elizabeth Penney’s book did pleasantly surprise me. The book succeeds largely because Penney brought to life a small commercial side street in Cambridge. The mystery was decently plotted, and several suspects remained in play. Set in and about Cambridge, loaded with history and vivid descriptions of historical and current sites, an atmospheric bookstore, a very likeable heroine and her family - - - - I really enjoyed this book and will watch for additional volumes to follow. I loved the setting and the personalities of the main characters. I would love to know them - and to visit Thomas Marlow bookstore. Good story, good plot, but I especially liked the people and the place!!! I'm anxious to visit there again - hopefully soon!!!! Reading this was a delight! This book has everything I love in a cozy series, a wonderful location, a glorious bookstore, a wonderful Main Character, a great supporting cast and cats! Molly Kimball finds herself in England, Cambridge to be exact, with her mother, to meet family she never knew she had. While trying to help her Aunt save the famous old bookstore that has been in her family for hundreds of years, she finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery. Who would use a poetry reading at the bookstore to frame her Aunt? Can't wait for more of this series, truly a wonderful read! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2021 )

This is an interesting beginning as it takes place in England (Cambridge). It weaves the story well enough and has some interesting characters.
